Adkins on Rovers goal threat

Royals boss looks to Ewood Park

Nigel Adkins says the Royals must be prepared for Blackburn’s goal threat as they get back to Sky Bet Championship action this weekend.

The Royals boss is hoping to build on momentum gathered by a 3-0 victory over Blackpool, whilst Gary Bowyer’s men come into the tie fresh off the back of an impressive win away to Nottingham Forest.

“Last time out we kept a clean sheet, we scored three good goals yet again at home and that feel good factor is important,” said Adkins.

“Before that we had gone through a period where results weren’t fantastic. Now we go to Ewood Park and our objective is to get three points. Blackburn are a good side. They narrowly missed out on the Premier League last season, Gary has done a great job. They managed to keep hold of Jordan Rhodes, it was tipped he was going to go to Hull. They have a big side, a side that play good football and they have goals in the team – they’re a threat.”

After a season marred by long term injuries to some of the club’s most experience stars, the manager was boosted early in the wee as Danny Williams and Anton Ferdinand returned to action in a 2-0 U21s victory over Brighton.

“It’s beneficial, obviously they’ve been out for a while. It was a planned 45 minutes for Danny and 60 for Ferdinand – they came through with no ill effects at all. Danny Guthrie has had an excellent couple of weeks and a game last Thursday but was just feeling his calf, so we had to take some precautions and get a scan done on that. Make sure there’s nothing untoward going on. All being well there’s not and we can kick him on again."
