Akpan: Confidence is there

30 October 2014

Hope ready for tough Rovers test

Hope Akpan is predicting a tough challenge for the Royals as they travel to Ewood Park this weekend, but believes his teammates have received a confidence boost from their 3-0 win over Blackpool.

Blackburn Rovers sit just a point off the play-offs, with strike partnership Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede boasting eleven goals between them.

"We go to Ewood Park and they're a good team in the right positons in the league so we will have to be tough and get a result," said the Nigerian international.

"The confidence will be there - it might have been a bit shaken over the last few weeks after having conceded a few goals, but the clean sheet will have done us a world of good. We tried to be a bit more solid, start from a firm base at the back and we knew we could create chances. Blackburn have some good players. I know a few of the boys there from teams I've been at in the past, we will need our strategies in place."

Hope has certainly attracted praise in recent weeks, linking up well with central midfield partner Oliver Norwood - and the 23-year-old is full of praise for September's Player of the Month.

"Me and Oli compliment eachother well, he's a good footballer with a great range of passing.  If I can win the ball back and get it to him then great. It's always nice to be appreciated. It doesn't mean I can switch off, I just need to keep my form and keep getting in the team."
