FA Cup drama for young goalkeepers

13 October 2014

Moore and Ward in action

Young Royals goalkeepers Stuart Moore and Lewis Ward both had their first experience of the magic of the FA Cup this past weekend.

The duo, on loan at Blue Square Premier sides Basingstoke Town and Whitehawk respectively, were in Third Qualifying Round action on Saturday afternoon.

Moore has enjoyed a successful loan to date with the top of the league Dragons, and played 90 minutes as his side came from a goal down to win 2-1 at Ebbsfleet.

Stuart pulled off a number of terrific saves to ensure that Town take on Harrow Borough at home in the Fourth Qualifying Round - just one step away from the first round proper.

There was plenty of work to do for England youth international Ward, who featured in our historic FA Youth Cup run last year. Making his debut for Whitehawk - he saved a penalty in a 4-4 draw at home to Chelmsford City.

No time to rest for the young stopper - the Hawks travelled away for the replay on Monday night in Chelmsford, where his side were unfortunately beaten 4-1, despite a few more impressive saves from Lewis.
