Mackie on 'brilliant' Royals fans

Jamie urges more backing

Jamie Mackie has thanked Reading fans for their superb backing after a tough evening in Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

A group of Royals fans kept their noise levels up until long after the final whistle - and the forward believes such support will be nothing but positive for the squad ahead of Saturday's game with Blackpool.

"The fans were brilliant and that’s what you need from them – it was quality to see," said Mackie. "Of course it has been a tough couple of weeks in terms of results but as long as they can see that the lads are out there with the right attitude, working really hard for the club then I’m sure they’ll carry on giving us that response. If they weren’t seeing that they could quite rightly turn on the boys. But they haven’t, the lads are being honest and working hard. We need them to be loud and to back us again like they’ve done all season."

The 29-year-old, who has earned nine international caps with Scotland, believes a positive result against the Tangerines could help to turn things around for his side.

"We have to go and put things right for everyone at the football club. You can quite easily go and win five games in the Championship; games are similar, teams are close in terms of quality and we’ve always got that chance to go on a good run. One little thing can trigger it - like a good home win. We need to get over the line, get on a run and you’ll see confidence go throughout the whole club."
