Manager on season so farNigel Adkins says his side will return after the international break in good spirits after back to back away wins, but still expects his squad to up their game in the coming weeks.
A cup win over Scunthorpe United, followed by an impressive away victory at Middlesbrough, certainly lifted spirits - with Fulham next up at Madejski Stadium this weekend.
"There’s a proper feelgood factor about the club, down at the training ground, despite the injuries we’ve had, there’s enthusiasm with youngsters having played, new players have come in, everyone is integrating well together," said Adkins.
"The disappointment of all of it was the Huddersfield game. We dominated possession, but conceded shocking goals, like we did at Forest. But the young group of players have responded well. With the players unavailable, everyone has galvanised in two away games but it’s two clean sheets and two goals. So I was pleased with that – but I will always demand more, you know where I want us to be."
Adkins admitted he was happy to see his young squad learning as they progressed - particularly in the way they saw their last fixture out at the Riverside Stadium.
"We played really well at Wigan, should have won the game but conceded late on. Crucially at Middlesbrough we didn’t concede late on, we saw it out. We’re in the League Cup which is really pleasing. There’s been a lot of travelling, Forest, Scunthorpe, Middlesbrough, but had two 1-0 wins with the squad being utilised and we’re together as one."
