Adkins: That's entertainment!

Boss reflects on six-goal thriller

Manager Nigel Adkins was pleased to put on a six-goal show for our supporters, but would have loved all three points after a 3-3 draw with in-form Wolves.

The Royal were winning, losing then drawing in the space of six second half minutes, and it was great to watch.

The boss said, "We scored some good goals and it was an entertaining afternoon.

"We ebbed and flowed against a good side that lead the percentage league for possession. We knew we would need to work hard on trying to get the ball back, maybe at times we were not as crisp as we would have liked when we kept possession, but we got better as the game went on.

"And the second goal was outstanding. It’s something we’ve worked on, on the training ground with Dean Wilkins and we wanted to play between the lines quickly and calmly. We got into pockets and it was a super goal. It was a great finish from Jake Taylor as well. A perfect goal.

"Again, the players have had to dig in deep because it was a good game today. Wolves have done really well in getting promoted last season and started the new season very well, so they’ve got momentum going with them.

"We would have liked to have won another home game, as we always do. For me, we will respect the point we have gone and got, but it was a good game of football."

Cox, Murray, Blackman and Taylor all played their part in another excellent attacking display, and the boss is very pleased with our quality in the top end of the pitch.

"We have got goals amongst our team now, which is great. We have got players coming back from injury, the youngsters stepping up, a squad that all want to do well and I want us to play football.

"I’d like to think people can see what we are trying to do. For me there are a lot of positives moving forward, definitely in the long-term but also in the short-term."

Goalscorer Taylor came off with an injury, and the boss said. "It looks as though he has damaged his hamstring whilst overstretching for the ball.  We will see what happens with that one, but it was great to see him get his goal.

"It was demonstrated today at whatever level, you need to master the football. It’s something I’m going to strive to improve on all the time, but today was an entertaining game of football.

"It was a great atmosphere with loads of noise which is good. There’s a great vibe about the place which want to keep continuing to improve on."
