Boss: "We've started on a long road"

Adkins previews Millwall clash

Royals manager Nigel Adkins underlined the importance of preparation, as the Royals aim to collect three points in tonight's game with Millwall at Madejski Stadium.

Adkins had praise for his players ahead of tonight's clash against Ian Holloway's men, but predicts a testing encounter under the lights.

"It'll be a very tough game," he said. We don't get too high when we win or too low when we lose. The lads who didn't play were out on the pitch after the Fulham game, and we were back in on Sunday morning to get our recovery strategy right.

"We were in on Monday preparing for Tuesday's game, and we know it will be difficult. But I'm really happy with the players and they've started on a long road for where we want to get to."

The boss also spoke positively about our three consecutive clean sheets, our new signings, and Danny Guthrie's recovery from injury.

"I'm really pleased we've kept three clean sheets in a row. Really, Feds hasn't had a lot to do this season from a defensive point of view."

"We've added players who have got real Championship experience. We've got more goals in us on paper, and it's great to have more attacking options.

"We're endeavoring to keep moving forward. I want us to pass the football with a purpose and be ruthless in what we go and do. We've got a real unity at the Football Club from top to bottom which is great.

"Danny Guthrie had an excellent week on the training ground last week. The important thing is that we integrate him back into it, but he doesn't break down."
