Cox pleased with Royals resilience

3 September 2014

Striker happy to reward supporters

Royals forward Simon Cox was pleased to put smiles on the faces of our supporters, following Saturday's victory at Middlesbrough.

It was a tough week on the road for Nigel Adkins' men, culminating in a long trip to the Riverside, but Cox was delighted after he finished off a fantastic team move to secure a 1-0 win.

"I was really proud for the boys," he told Reading FC Player. "We dug in right until the end and it was good to come away with a great result and a 1-0 win.

"We've been saying about making final passes forward, and by being brave enough to make that final pass is how you score goals. I was just able to loop it over the 'keeper as I saw him rushing out.

"The defensive display was up there with the best I've seen. Big Coops (Jake Cooper) came on and headed everything! There is a lot more to his game than that but that was exactly what we needed."

A lot of time and money was spent by our loyal supporters, who travelled the length and breadth of the country for our defeat at Nottm Forest, Capital One Cup win away at Scunthorpe as well as last weekend's success in the North East.

"The week was tough on everyone, but especially the fans," added the Academy graduate.

"It's a lot of hours spent on the motorway with three away games in a week, but we're glad to reward them with three points and a place in the next round of the Cup."
