Striker on attacking brand of footballSimon Cox is enjoying the brand of football played under manager Nigel Adkins, as the striker begins to settle into his second spell at Madejski Stadium.
The Academy product slid in Jake Taylor for a well taken second goal in the thrilling 3-3 draw with Wolves on Sunday afternoon, and believes there are plenty of chances to be had for strikers playing under the current manager’s regime.
“We have a young and hungry squad that wants success – I think fans have appreciated some of the attacking play from us this season,” said Cox.
“The manager here is all about passing the ball, moving into space, creating chances. With that second goal today it was simple in a way, Glenn laid it off to me, I slid in Jake and it was a great run and finish. Strike partnerships are all about getting each other in the box and linking up, trying to create chances for each other. Today I made a couple of chances for Glenn – so hopefully he’ll lay on a couple for me on Wednesday and we will keep going!”
The fixture list has not been particularly kind to the Royals – with trips to Elland Road and Griffin Park making it three games in seven days for an already injury troubled squad.
“We go to Leeds on the back of a hard earned point today. On Monday we’re in for recovery and then we can travel up there with a bit of confidence and hopefully take three points. Perhaps the fixtures haven’t been kind to us, but every team goes through tough periods – this is our one and we’ll go into it and hopefully get as many points on the board as possible.
“There’s an international break coming up too, so if we work hard and get two wins then we will have earned that rest.”
