Deadline deal: Striker Murray signs for Royals

1 September 2014

Frontman moves to Madejski Stadium

Reading Football Club are very pleased to announce our fifth signing of the summer with the arrival on loan of proven goalscorer Glenn Murray from Crystal Palace.

The striker was the Championship's leading scorer with 30 goals in his last season in the division, outscoring the likes of Jordan Rhodes, Charlie Austin and Troy Deeney to help take his team back to the Premier League last year.

And in the last seven years he has averaged better than a goal every other game when starting a league match: 111 goals in 211 starts.

The 30-year-old has this evening chosen to join the Royals, penning a loan deal until 1st January. Please note the deal is subject to ratification by all footballing authorities, and this could take a little while especially as it was submitted so close to 11pm.

Glenn has been involved in all four of Crystal Palace's fixtures in the Premier League and Capital One Cup this season, and will train with his new teammates for the first time later this week.

He is our fifth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Simon Cox, Jamie Mackie, Anton Ferdinand and Oliver Norwood - in total we have added 1473 games' worth of experience to the squad.

After a summer of speculation about the club's ownership, the first of those to arrive was Cox on 7th August, and Murray's arrival now makes it five deals in 26 days.

Glenn is on Twitter @GM_83 and will aim to make his debut when we host Fulham at Madejski Stadium on Saturday 13th September, kick off 3pm.

His squad number will be confirmed in the coming days and we would like to officially welcome him to the club.
