Opening month accolade handed to centre-backBefore kick-off against Millwall on Tuesday night, centre-back Michael Hector was presented with the official RFC Player of the Month award for August 2014.
Fans vited for the player who had made the biggest impact in our opening month of the 2014-15 campaign, and Hector beat off strong competition from a number of players to pick up the club's first accolade of the season.
Having started the season in central midfield, the 22-year-old seamlessly reverted to a place at the heart of our defence and put in an exceptional display to keep a clean sheet in our first home game of the league season against Ipswich Town.
He also helped keep a clean sheet at Middlesbrough at the end of August, having set up Shaun Cummings for our first goal of the season at the DW Stadium on the opening day.
The former Aberdeen loanee is arguably one of the elder statesmen in our squad this season, masterfully marshalling the young team that has formed around him in this first month of the season. Congratulations to Hec and here's to many more memorable displays this season.
