Injured players to benefit from break

1 September 2014

Treatment room update

The Royals had eleven players unavailable on Saturday, but manager Nigel Adkins is hopeful that some of them will return after the international break.

Pogrebnyak, Robson-Kanu, McCleary, Williams, Guthrie, Karacan, Blackman, Ferdinand, Cummings, Kelly and Tshibola were all ruled out, but some of them could return by the time we play Fulham on 13th September.

Pogrebnyak, Guthrie and Ferdinand may be the closest to a return, but the likes of McCleary and Williams are still some way off.

Adkins said, "The break has come at the right time.

"We had 11 injured on Saturday, and two more in Hector and Obita who only passed fitness tests on Saturday morning, I couldn’t name the team until then.

"There’s been a lot of travelling to Forest, Scunthorpe and Middlesbrough, but we had two 1-0 wins with the squad being utilised and we’re together as one.

"We’ve got an opportunity to get some players back and fit – because the games go Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday as soon as we’re back after the international break, it's seven games in 22 days.

"There’s a proper feelgood factor about the club, down at the training ground, despite the injuries we’ve had, there’s enthusiasm with youngsters having played, new players have come in, everyone is integrating well together."
