Royals midfielder Oliver Norwood played for Northern Ireland as they secured their first away win in four years, and began their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign with a superb 2-1 victory against Hungary in Budapest.

He played 78 minutes for Michael O'Neill's side, in the middle of the park with former Royal Chris Baird, as they came from behind to score two goals late on through Niall McGinn and Kyle Lafferty.

Alex Pearce was an unused substitute on Sunday night, as the Republic of Ireland claimed a 2-1 win over Georgia in their opening European Championship qualifier in Tbilisi.

Three of our young stars were also in action on Friday night in Ireland U21s' final European qualifying game, a 2-0 loss to Germany.

The Emerald Isle may not have qualified, but full backs Shane Griffin and Sean Long played the full 90 against the group's runaway leaders, while Pierce Sweeney came off the bench to play 30 minutes in central midfield.

Meanwhile, Jake Taylor received a first Wales call-up, and joins Chris Gunter in the squad for a UEFA qualifier away to Andorra on Tuesday 9th September. Fellow Welshman Hal Robson-Kanu is ruled out through injury.

Shaun Cummings was picked by Jamaica for a match against Canada in Toronto next Tuesday, but suffered a knee injury in our game at Scunthorpe and will miss out.

Jonathan Henly and Dominic Hyam are part of the Scotland Under 21 setup as they take on Luxembourg on Monday in a UEFA qualifier.

Midfielder Sammi Fridjonsson is with Iceland's Under 19s, alongside Academy youngsters Tomas Urbancic and Sindri Scheving, as they play two games against Northern Ireland, who include under-18s midfielder Lewis Collins.

Rob Dickie, Aaron Kuhl and Jack Stacey have all been on standby for England's Under 19s ahead of a friendly in Germany.

Youth striker Harry Cardwell impressed for Scotland U19s last week as he bagged a first half brace, before his side drew 0-0 with Switzerland on Thursday. Tom McIntyre, also of the Royals Academy, is currently with Scotland U17s at a training camp.
