U18s and U21s in winning weekend

18 September 2014

Both sides claim first victories

Reading's under-18s and under-21s both picked up their first wins of the season this past weekend with 2-1 victories.

Our U18s took on Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday at Hogwood Park, and took the lead in the 12th minute.

Andrija Novakovich squared the ball to Sam Smith who scored from close range, before turning from provider to goalscorer just before half time.

The American strike won a penalty and then converted the spot kick to give the Royals a commanding 2-0 lead.

Brighton hit back in the second half but David Dodds' men held out for a first Barclays U18s Premier League win of the season, ahead of Saturday's trip to Arsenal.

Royals: Ward (C), Watson, Lawal (Scheving 83), Ethelston, Jules, Waritay, Husin (Collings 70), Richards, Williams, Novakovich, Smith (Lee 88).

Subs not used: Southwood, East.

Royals U21s secured an excellent 2-1 victory away at Stoke City on Friday night.

Icelandic midfielder Sammi Fridjonsson found the back of the net midway through the first half before adding a second just after the hour mark.

Fridjonsson's brace was enough to secure the three points, with momentum build ahead of next Monday night's game with Bolton Wanderers at Basingstoke Town.

Royals: Lincoln, Dickie, Griffin, Hyam, Sweeney (C), Shaughnessy, Fridjonsson, Stacey, Fosu, Kelly, Cardwell.

Subs: McLennan, Gogic, Keown, Owusu, Samuel
