3-2 victory at YeovilReading FC Women clinched a thrilling 3-2 victory away at Yeovil Town to keep their Women's Super League 2 title hopes alive.
It's a fifth win in six games for Jayne Ludlow's side, with Lauren Bruton scoring twice and Fran Kirby once in a roller-coaster ride of a game at Sherborne Town FC.
The Royals made a positive start to the fixture, but it was the hosts who took the lead when Sarah Wiltshire headed in from a corner.
Ludlow's women responded well, Bruton and Kirby had strikes off target before the Royals had an opportunity to to level from the spot.
Bruton was brought down in the area and then stepped up to take the penalty, which she despatched with aplomb into the top left hand corner after half an hour.
And just over five minutes later, Reading were ahead. Kirby robbed Yeovil's goalkeeper of possession and passed the ball into an empty net from close range.
But on the stroke of half time, Yeovil equalised as Natalie Haigh nodded in after a fantastic cross.
Bianca Bragg went close for the Royals after the break when she wriggled free of the defence, but her shot was well saved.
With just over ten minutes remaining, Reading scored the all-important fifth goal. Kirby unselfishly played in Bruton on the outside of the box to drive the ball home via a deflection.
Two minutes later, Kirby almost scored with a fantastic effort outside the box which hit the crossbar.
Yeovil pressed for an equaliser in the dying stages but the Royals held on for a well earned three points.
With a game in hand on all of our rivals, RFC Women are now four points clear of fourth placed Yeovil and remain four behind second-placed Doncaster Belles.
