Cult hero heads down for Cardiff gameThis Saturday Madejski Stadium is set to welcome a very special guest, as Bill Oddie comes down to back the boys!
The much loved star of The Goodies is of course a cult hit at the club, with opposition fans often bemused by an unusual chant sung by Royals supporters – paying tribute to the television presenter and his beard.
Bill has been invited down to our home game with Cardiff City at the weekend and will be introduced to his devoted followers shortly before kick-off.
Speaking on TalkSport about his Berkshire fame, Oddie even hinted he may have to switch allegiances from his beloved Manchester United.
“I couldn’t possibly go anywhere else, except for possibly Reading!” he told presenter Max Rushden.
“For some bizarre reason the Reading crowd sing ‘Bill Oddie, Bill Oddie, rub your beard all over my body’. I haven’t got a clue why! But I’m about to find out because they have sent me an invitation to a Reading match, and we are now in a bizarre situation where Reading could have overtaken Manchester United.
“I don’t even have much of a beard at the moment, it’s very limited. I’m trying to grow it a little bit at the moment on behalf of orang-utans but that’s another story…”
Want to join in the fun? Novelty beards will be available in the Megastore this weekend for £5!
