Brilliant fans spread the story on TwitterReading Football Club would like to say a huge thank you to the thousands of supporters that took to Twitter last night to promote the club’s #RyansRoyals community project.
Tasked with tweeting at 7pm, the #RyansRoyals hashtag went on to reach around 1.5 million people over the course of the evening thanks to brilliant input from of a number of fans.
Such was the overwhelming response, the tag travelled as far as Athens, New York, Bangkok and Melbourne, and also began trending in the United Kingdom.
A trending topic is visible to all Twitter users within a certain vicinity, meaning that they do not have to be a follower of @ReadingFC, or anyone tweeting about #RyansRoyals, to be made aware of the hashtag.
Prior to the last night’s tweeting event, the Ryan’s Royals story, which will see the first team wear a one-off kit for Saturday’s game with Blackburn Rovers, was also reported by the BBC Sport, Sky Sports – who of course have followed the story since its inception last year - national newspapers The Daily Mail and The Mirror, the Football League and Match of the Day magazine. .
Local media BBC Berkshire, GetReading and the Reading Chronicle also went out of their way to provide #RyansRoyals with some extensive coverage and exposure.
