Team News: Injury doubts ahead of Cardiff clash

2 April 2015

Chalobah and Cox doubts

Steve Clarke has confirmed he has a number of injury concerns ahead of Saturday's clash with Cardiff City.

Whilst revealing that no players returning from international duty have reported any problems, the manager has flagged doubts over Nathaniel Chalobah and Simon Cox's involvement against the Bluebirds.

"The ones who have been away have all come back well, we are looking forward to getting them all back today and starting again ahead of another busy month coming up," Clarke told Reading FC Player.

"Nats (Chalobah) is still a little bit behind schedule, doubtful for this weekend but I never give up with my medical staff. We’ve still got three or four injuries, we’re not clear. The international break came at a good time but we’re still not clear of quite a few injuries."

Simon Cox could also miss out after a knock that forced him out of contention for the Charlton game, whilst Jure Travner will be ruled out after a minor operation. Stephen Kelly and Anton Ferdinand are also unavailable.

The Royals will of course be boosted by the additions of Chelsea's Nathan Ake and Crystal Palace's Kwesi Appiah, both of whom are available after joining before the closure of the loan window.

"It was good to add to the squad, Nathan from Chelsea, comes in and gives us a bit of versatility and can play in a number of different positions. Obviously I’ve bought in Kwesi Appiah too who’s’ a striker. Different to the ones we've got, we're hopeful that those two additions will pad us out and see us to the end of the season."
