#21forDolan

16 August 2015

Royals fans to show support for Eamonn on Sunday

We are overwhelmed with the wonderful show of support which Reading fans – and the world of football – have given to our Academy Manager Eamonn Dolan since we announced on Thursday that he was beginning a course of chemotherapy, following the removal of a tumour from his bladder.

Reading supporters quickly took to Twitter to show their support for Eamonn, with the hashtag #21forDolan quickly taking root.  Fans have decided to use the 21st minute of our fixture against Leeds United to show their support, appreciation, respect and love for Eamonn.

‘21’ is a reference to the tremendous work that Eamonn has done with the young players at our football club – that culminated with winning the inaugural Under-21 Premier League Cup in 2014, as well as promotion to the Barclays Under-21 Premier League Division 1 this summer.  That barely scratches the surface of the achievements that Eamonn has made with our Academy at all age-levels throughout his 11 years at Reading FC.

But it is not just by his peers on a professional level that Eamonn is admired and respected.  It is his wonderful attitude, personality and character that stands him out from the crowd.

Royals manager Steve Clarke said: “He is a good friend, and when your friends are down, you back them up.  So we’re all right behind Eamonn.

“It’s what you judge everyone on – first and foremost, if you’re a good person, you’ve got a good chance in life.  And Eamonn’s right up there with the best of them.”

The football family has certainly shown their affection for Eamonn this week.  And now fans that are coming through to Madejski Stadium have vowed to voice their support Academy Manager this Sunday in the 21st minute – and that’s from all four corners of the ground, with Leeds United fans also pledging to show their solidarity with Eamonn.

We’re right alongside you, Eamonn.
