Midfielder completes switch to Ewood ParkRoyals midfielder Hope Akpan has today joined Blackburn Rovers on a permanent deal.
Akpan, 23, has signed a two-year contract with Gary Bowyer’s side.
The midfielder joined the Royals in January 2013 from Crawley Town, having first coming through the ranks at Everton.
Akpan made an immediate impression for us in the Premier League with assists against Chelsea and Newcastle, and went on to make a total of 39(+24) appearances for the Royals, scoring once. He also broke onto the international stage with Nigeria and earned his first caps for the Super Eagles this year.
Hope was nominated for a Football League PFA Player In The Community Award for his work with local youngsters whilst at Reading, and we would like to send him our best wishes as he moves to Ewood Park.
Manager Steve Clarke said: “Last season was a frustrating one for Hope Akpan due to injury and lack of game-time. It is an area of the pitch where we are well covered and it would be wrong to deny Hope the chance to play matches and start to move his career forward again. He was always a good person in my squad with the correct attitude towards training and I wish him well for the future.”
