Royals duo make community visits in summer holidaysFirst-team duo Oliver Norwood and Jake Cooper both took time out of their busy training schedules recently to go and visit young Royals fans in the local area, who were taking part in Community Trust Summer Soccer Schools.
The Reading FC Community Trust runs loads of football-based activities for young boys and girls in Reading and Berkshire during summer holidays and half-term breaks. And some lucky youngsters on the courses had the chance to meet the Royals stars earlier this month.
Defender Jake Cooper, who grew up just 10 miles from Reading and came through the club’s Academy, headed over to Goals in Woodley to meet the young players at the Summer Soccer School and check out their football skills.
Jake answered questions about becoming a professional footballer, and spent time talking about how much he enjoyed attending similar sessions when he was an aspiring young footballer – and stressed the importance of having fun whilst playing football and listening to the coaches!
Then midfielder Oliver Norwood surprised over 70 young fans when he arrived at the Indoor Training Facility at Madejski Stadium, where a Soccer School was taking place. He took part in a Q&A, and then stuck around to meet the young players, sign autographs and pose for photos.
Ollie even gave one young fan his Reading FC tracksuit top for the photo as he forgot to wear his Royals shirt for the session!
Centre-half Jake Cooper said: “There’s so much going on for any kid in the local area, including things like Soccer Schools. The school holidays are a perfect opportunity to come to these kinds of events – I loved coming down to these events through Reading FC to play football with my mates when I was younger. The club gives great opportunities for young kids in the area.”
