Royals drawn away to Portsmouth in Capital One Cup

13 August 2015

Trip to Fratton Park in the second round

Reading have been drawn away against Portsmouth in the second round of this year’s Capital One Cup.  The draw was made live on Sky Sports, following Thursday evening’s televised clash between Doncaster Rovers and Leeds United.

Paul Cook’s men negotiated their way through the first round by upsetting Championship side Derby County by a 2-1 scoreline in Hampshire in the first round, while the Royals overcame Colchester United in extra-time in midweek to secure their place in the hat.

Pompey have negotiated their way to the quarter-final five times in the history of the competition – including in the first ever instalment in 1960/61 – but have never made it to the final four.  It will be the first time the two teams have met in the League Cup.

The tie will take place at Fratton Park at a date and time to be confirmed on the week commencing 24th August.
