Flashback: Our other Boxing Day visit to Molineux…

24 December 2015

A recap of our trip to Wolverhampton a decade ago

In our history, only once before have we met Wolverhampton Wanderers as a Boxing Day clash… and it so happens that it was 10 seasons ago, and three points that afternoon was added to the ever-growing tally, which stood at 106 points come the season’s end!

It was the ninth game in a ten-match winning streak in the Championship for the Royals – Reading scored 26 and conceded just three times in that remarkable run of games.  Watch the video here…

Wolves were also eight-games unbeaten going into the match – but the Royals ultimately proved to strong.  Dave Kitson, who had hit the bar twice within a matter of seconds early on as Stefan Postma watched on helplessly, finally hit the net just before the half-hour when Glen Little sent in an inch-perfect cross for the striker to head home.

And the scoring was wrapped up by Bobby Convey midway through the second period, whose final solo run was only bettered by the quality of his left-footed strike – finding the net via the inside of the post.

Seol Ki-Hyeon, who would go on to sign for Reading the following summer in time for the maiden Premier League campaign, came within the crossbar’s width of halving the deficit.  He headed against the woodwork from Darren Anderton’s cross, and then Colin Cameron also rattled the frame of goal with a 30-yard effort.

However no Wolves players were able to breach Marcus Hahnemann’s goal – the two goals were more than enough to earn the Royals three points that afternoon.

Precisely a decade later, we return to Molineux to try to secure another important victory!

After our Molineux visit, it’s a quick turnaround as we host Brentford at Madejski Stadium on Monday 28th December (3pm) – book your ticket early to save £3 per person!  Please note that there are a lot of supporters due to collect tickets on matchday, so there may be large queues at the Ticket Office – so please arrive as early as possible to avoid a long wait.
