Royals to travel to Fulham in the New Year

Reading’s Under-18 contingent will face Fulham in the fourth round of this season’s FA Youth Cup, and the tie will take place on Monday 18th January 2016 (7pm) at Motspur Park, Fulham’s training ground.

The Royals were minutes away from an early exit in the competition in the previous round – a plucky Sheffield United side had the lead until stoppage time, when Gabriel Osho forced home a corner and took the match to extra-time.  Sam Smith drew a foul from the goalkeeper in the box, who was sent off for the challenge, and Josh Barrett converted from 12 yards; Danny Loader put the seal on the win late on.

The Cottagers looked like they were breezing into the fourth round – they took a commanding 4-0 lead against visitors Bury at Motspur Park, but a spirited fightback from the Shakers took the game to 4-2 with quarter of the game remaining.  That was where the scoring stopped, however, ensuring that Fulham would be our hosts.

The two sides have met at Hogwood this season already – a well-balanced affair saw Osho net a fine headed goal to equalise, before Conor Davis stole all three points with virtually the last kick of the game as he arrived late at the back post.

It also represents a rematch of the 2013/14 semi-final – it ended 2-2 in the first leg at Madejski Stadium, but ultimately a hat-trick by Moussa Dembele in the return fixture helped the West London club to a 5-4 aggregate victory and a place in the final.

Supporters can pay entry on the evening of the game at Motspur Park – admission is priced at £3 Adults and £1 Concessions.  For directions to the ground, see the map below.
