21 December 2015

Our manager’s late season Madejski Stadium record in the Championship

Adult tickets are available from £230, 65 & Over from £120, ages 18-24 from £80 and ages 17 & Under from £60.  If you buy a non-child Half Season Ticket, you can get one for free for supporters aged 7 & Under!

We’ve had plenty of reasons to cheer after Christmas under Brian McDermott.  In each of his three previous Championship seasons at the helm at Madejski Stadium, our home record in the second half of the season has been simply stunning.

Of the 36 games on offer after the festive celebrations – 12 in each season – we have collected a staggering 27 wins, 5 draws and just 4 defeats. That represents 86 points from a possible 108 across the second halves of the season between 2009/10 and 2011/12!

McDermott’s first home game in charge in his first spell at the club was a 1-1 draw with Swansea City back in the 2009/10 campaign with the club struggling in 20th position – just four points above the relegation zone.  9 wins at home after Christmas helped turn the season into a positive campaign and took the Royals to a commendable 9th position on the final day.

The following season, the Royals were four points shy of the play-off places at Christmas, a just a place behind Coventry in sixth.  But once the yuletide festivities had passed, 8 wins from 12 at Madejski Stadium – including 5 on the spin between February and April – earned the Royals a play-off spot and ultimately a trip to Wembley at the end of 2010/11.

That visit to the home of football ended in disappointment as Swansea booked their place in the top tier – but Reading bounced back stronger in 2011/12.  Once again, Reading sat 7th at Christmas – and a storming second half of the season, which included 10 wins from 12 fixtures at home and a run of 8 home triumphs in succession.  That was the basis for Reading to secure a Premier League place in May, as the Championship title came to Berkshire.

We want your support in the second half of the season as we aim to make it 2015/16 another year to remember.

The second Brian McDermott era kicked off in terrific fashion against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday – let’s hope it is the first win of many!
