Reading trio visit Avenue School

3 December 2015

Royals players meet pupils and staff

Royals defender Anton Ferdinand paid a visit to the Avenue School last week to meet some of the pupils and staff at the special needs academy.

But as a special treat, the centre-half was then joined by teammates Nick Blackman and Michael Hector in a surprise visit for a signing and photo session with the children and staff who were all very excited to meet the players!

During the visit, which took place courtesy of club partner Quintiles, Anton presented t-shirts to children who had recently excelled in a national Shakespeare for Schools performance.

Defender Anton also took part in a question and answer session with the pupils, who quizzed him on a range of topics, from what car he drove, to what life was like as a professional footballer.

The Avenue, is special school for boys and girls aged between 2 and 19 with complex special educational needs.  Reading FC and Reading FC Community Trust have a close relationship with the Avenue School and have taken part in a number of joint initiatives such as #RyansRoyals, which was a great success for both club and school.

Following the success of #RyansRoyals we are still taking suggestions for the club's next legacy project.  Click here for more information, including how to nominate your own project.
