U18s share the spoils with Spurs

8 December 2015

Young Royals make it five unbeaten in the league

The Royals remain second in the Under-18 Premier League (South) table following a goalless draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The Reading youngsters faced eighth-placed Spurs at Hogwood Park, looking to continue their run of good form and make it five league wins in a row.  Ultimately the two teams played out an evenly contested 0-0 draw.

The Royals went close on a couple of occasions, the biggest chances falling first to Sam Smith through a free header which bounced just wide.  Josh Chatee also went close for the Royals when his angled drive grazed off the outside of the post.

Spurs’ Marcus Edwards was a constant threat and went closest for the visitors when he saw his driven effort clatter off the Royals cross bar after a superb solo run.  Though it was a game of high intensity the match ended goalless and the Royals took a point to make it five league games unbeaten.

Reading now sit second in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League (South) standings with 35 points from 17 games; that puts plenty of breathing room ahead of Aston Villa and Leicester on 27 points, but with ground to make up on leaders Chelsea who currently have 39 points and a game in hand.

Don’t forget that you can watch our youngsters in action next Tuesday 15th December at Madejski Stadium in the FA Youth Cup.  The U18’s face Sheffield United in the third round of the competition - Adults can enter for £3 and Concessions for just £1!
