"Without the fans, we have nothing..."

Sir John Madejski thanks fans 'from the bottom of his heart' in 'The Royal'

At the end of an exclusive interview with Thursday night’s matchday programme, ‘The Royal’ openly asked if there was a message Co-Chairman Sir John Madejski would like to issue to the fans of our football club, what has been his football club for the last 9,131 days and counting…

“I just want to say that, without the fans, we have nothing,” he humbly began.

“I hope the fans appreciate what we’re trying to achieve at Reading. I know the supporters reasonably well now; they come here to watch a game of football and hopefully to watch Reading win. That is all they want.

“We all want Reading to win. Sometimes, it’s not as easy as all that. But that’s what every fan wants and I don’t blame them, because that is what they’ve paid their hard-earned cash to come and see.

“Football here takes them to another place. After the final whistle, they can go back to all the trials and tribulations of life, but for 90 minutes they can be in a different place and I respect that.

“And all I want to do is thank each and every one of them from the bottom of my heart, for the support they’ve given me and the support they’ve given Reading Football Club.”

Many, many supporters reading Thursday evening’s issue of ‘The Royal’ will firmly believe, after remembering the 25-year journey Sir John Madejski has taken Reading Football Club on since that 1-0 win over Fulham on 1st December 1990, that the Chairman himself is the one who deserves the thanks of so many associated with the club and the local community of Reading.

Today, we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Co-Chairman Sir John Madejski’s first game at the helm. On Thursday, supporters can read more from the man who has transformed this football club in a special souvenir edition of ‘The Royal’.
