Royals hoping to defend trophyReading travel to Blackburn Rovers tomorrow evening for the semi-final of the U21s Premier League Cup – a competition that they won in April.
Martin Kuhl’s men overcame Manchester City in a two-legged final last season and victory over Rovers tomorrow would set up an identical showdown with either Southampton or Derby County.
The Royals began the defence of their trophy this season with an emphatic victory over Queens Park Rangers in November. Tariqe Fosu scored the pick of the goals, with Dominic Samuel and Andrija Novakovich also finding the net.
The next round saw the Royals make the journey to Bolton Wanderers, and again they notched three goals en route to the next round.
Samuel, now experiencing regular first-team football at Coventry City, opened the scoring on 15 minutes before Luke Holding levelled the tie before half time.
A tight second period saw the game head into extra-time where strikes from Aaron Tshibola and Jack Stacey were enough to see Reading through.
The quarter-final again saw the Royals head north, and again saw them have to negotiate extra time. A tight, goalless 90 minutes with Huddersfield Town looked destine for penalty kicks before Jack Stacey curled home in the 119th minute to send Reading into the last four.
Thursday night’s clash kicks off at 7pm and will be contested at Leigh Sports Village, Greater Manchester.
