Royals appoint new Head of Scouting

28 February 2015

Tony Spearing named as Head of Scouting & Recruitment.

Reading Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Tony Spearing as our new Head of Scouting & Recruitment.

Manager Steve Clarke said, “Tony was a valued member of my staff at West Bromwich Albion and, when he became available after a back room shuffle there, I was delighted that I could persuade him to come and work for me at Reading FC.

“He has an extensive knowledge of European players, and coupled with his network of contacts at home and abroad, will be an important part of my staff going forward.”

Tony added, "I am delighted to join Reading and it was an honour to be asked to rejoin my former manager.

"I am part of a forward-thinking team here, I spent 8 years at a similar-sized club in West Bromwich Albion, and when I got the chance to come to Reading I saw it as an opportunity not to be missed."

50-year-old Tony is a hugely experienced football man, with a long and successful career as a player, coach and scout.

Alongside Steve Clarke at West Brom, he was responsible for helping to bring a long list of footballing talent to The Hawthorns.

He was also Blackburn Rovers’ Senior Scout for many years, having played more than 350 games in a career as a defender than included Leicester, Norwich, Stoke and many more.

All at the Club would wish Tony the best here at Madejski Stadium.
