Cummings signs for Millwall

12 January 2015

Defender heads to The Den

Defender Shaun Cummings has this afternoon signed for Millwall.

The full back made 80 (+6) appearances for the Royals in a little over five years, scoring one goal. He moves to the New Den with a desire for regular first team football and the terms of the transfer will remain undisclosed.

Director of Football Nick Hammond said, "Shaun has been an excellent professional, very reliable and he made a real contribution to the club - particularly when he started more than 30 games in the promotion season – so we all wish him well for the future."

Manager Steve Clarke added, "Shaun has been a valuable member of the squad at Reading FC for a number of years now. However I felt that, without significantly weakening our squad, this was a good deal for us and also for Shaun at this stage in his career. I'd like to thank him for for his efforts in my short time here as manager and wish him every success in the future."

Shaun was signed by Brendan Rodgers from Chelsea in the summer of 2009, and later fought his way into the team under Brian McDermott. In particular, he produced a memorable display on the right wing away at Cardiff in the second leg of the 2011 play-off semi-final.

Reliable in either full-back position, he scored his only Reading goal on the opening day of this season at Wigan, and could be facing the Royals soon as we travel to the New Den on Tuesday 27th January.
