Winger joins Turkish team
Royals winger Royston Drenthe has today joined Turkish top flight club Kayseri Erciyesspor on a permanent basis.
Drenthe is currently in Turkey having completed a medical and all paperwork on his move.
The 27-year-old joined the Royals in the summer of 2013, and he played 17(+7) times for the club, scoring twice. This season he lined up 7(+8) times for Sheffield Wednesday on loan, scoring once.
Royston leaves with the club’s best wishes; he never quite established himself in our first team and this move represents the best outcome for both the club and the player, who will hopefully now enjoy regular first team football in the Süper Lig.
Manager Steve Clarke said, "Royston Drenthe is, without doubt, a talented player but sometimes, in football, transfers don’t deliver what they promise. That’s been the case for Royston at Reading FC so it’s best for both parties that he moves on and we wish him well for the future."
