News from the treatment roomThe Royals could be without Welsh international Chris Gunter for the next fortnight following the full back's ankle injury sustained in the FA Cup win over Cardiff City.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, manager Steve Clarke gave an update from the Hogwood Park treatment room.
"Chris Gunter’s injury is not good, it’s not as good as we hoped it would be and he’ll probably miss two or three weeks," he said. "Stephen Kelly has trained very well, prepared for his chance and did very well when he came in. It shows that all players have to be ready."
Saturday's game with Sheffield Wednesday is also set to come too soon for Danny Guthrie and Anton Ferdinand, whilst Hope Akpan is due to see a specialist as he seeks the green light to return to match action.
"Danny Guthrie is improving, he was ruled out for 7-10 days and it looks as though that’ll be the timescale so he won’t be ready this weekend. Anton is working hard in training; he is trying as hard as he can to be fit to help us. He’s getting a little bit closer but he’s been in that position before and had little set backs, so this time we are hopeful he will get through, join the group and make a contribution to us in the second half of the season."
