Winger glad to be back involvedGarath McCleary was pleased to be back in action on Saturday as he played his first game of 2015, but admitted that Bryan Ruiz’s late winner was a tough blow to take.
The Jamaican international was impressive throughout, putting 17 crosses into the box according to Squawka.com and enjoying plenty of possession as he completed 90 minutes for just the third time in the 2014/15 season.
“There’s a lot to build on,” McCleary said. “We controlled it in the first half and I think we played really well throughout. We had a lot of attempts and crosses in the box. We played well as a team, passed the ball about and had a good shape so it was unfortunate not to even get a point in the end. It was good to get out there doing what I do best and getting at my man but unfortunately we didn’t get the three points which is what I wanted.”
The 27-year-old was also keen to praise the efforts of Russian forward Pavel Pogrebnyak, who crashed home his first goal of a campaign that has also been disrupted with injury.
“He played really well, he’s come back in from the cold, put in a performance and scored a goal. He works really hard for the team and we’re glad to have him back.”
