Full-back praises Jem's influence
Jordan Obita was thrilled to see club captain Jem Karacan return to first-team action against Middlesbrough on Saturday.
Karacan came off the bench with five minutes remaining to make his first appearance in 16 months, after recovering from a knee injury.
Despite having 66 senior Reading appearances to his name, Obita has yet to appear in a starting XI alongside Karacan and he hopes that that will change in the coming weeks.
“Jem is great; a really funny lad,” said the 21-year-old. “On the pitch, he is a brilliant leader and he always talks to the young players and tries to help us to progress in our careers as well.
“I said to him last week when we was on the bench that it’s great for everyone to have him back around the team. We all know how good he is and in training he’s been really sharp. Hopefully in a couple of weeks he can get in the team and stay in the team.”
Obita was pleased to pick up a point in the weekend’s physical contest with Middlesbrough.
He said: “Us young lads are probably used to more passing, free-flowing football but in a few games this season it’s been a bit more of a scrap and we have done really well. On Saturday, it wasn’t a great game to watch but we did well, stuck to our gameplan and got the clean sheet.”
