Pogrebnyak takes man of the match award

Clarke and McCleary hail big Russian

Royals striker Pavel Pogrebnyak was named as man of the match following the 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon.

The Russian international convincingly headed home his third goal of the season from Stephen Kelly's pinpoint cross, much to the delight of both manager and teammates.

"He deserves a lot of plaudits, he works tirelessly and if he gets a chance usually he'll score,” said Garath McCleary.

“He's fantastic to have around the place and a good friend of mine. You see how hard he works in training and see the stats after the game. He's been fantastic.”

Manager Steve Clarke said: "Pav was good. He's another one who was out injured for a period of time before I got to the club - but that's the second goal he’s scored since he’s come back in. He looks a threat, you know if you get the ball into the box with quality Pavel is a player that can score."
