Many of last season’s Second Year Scholars have made the step up to U21 level this term and the likes of Jack Stacey and Aaron Kuhl have even represented the first team.
Current first teamers Aaron Tshibola, Craig Tanner and Jake Cooper have also graduated from our esteemed youth system in recent seasons, with Tshibola currently gaining regular first-team football experience at Hartlepool United, and Tanner and Cooper having both netted goals for Reading this season.
The trio, as well as Stacey and Kuhl, all played integral roles last season as Reading won the U21s Premier League Cup for the first time. Having beaten the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, the youngsters overcame Manchester City in a two-legged final to lift the trophy at the Madejski Stadium.
Our U18 side have won three of their last five matches and they resume their league campaign on Saturday when they host Arsenal in the U18s Premier League.
Their last league encounter saw them beat Fulham by three goals to one at Hogwood Park, a game in which talented midfielder Noor Husin scored one of the contenders for December’s Goal of the Month.
Harry Cardwell notched twice in the same game and the Scottish youth international is just one of many academy players to have gained international recognition.
