Al-Habsi: Why I feel at home here

15 July 2015

New goalkeeper delighted to sign

New goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi is delighted to have become our fifth summer signing, and says the welcome from his teammates and staff made it an easy decision.

The Oman international has been training with us for a couple of weeks, and was part of our successful pre-season trip to Thailand.

The last fortnight has cemented Ali's desire to join, and he told Reading FC Player HD in an exclusive interview, "I'm so happy. I'm delighted and looking forward to everything.

"I've been one week with the team and I feel home. From the first day at this football club I feel home, and I'm ready. It's been fantastic, the group of players, the manager, the staff. Sometimes when you go to a place it's difficult and you need time, but here, from the first day I felt it was right for me.

"I'm very happy, the gaffer gave me confidence and now I've signed. From the first day, he said to me, 'Ali I've not brought you here just for a trial, I'm confident in your performance, I want you to settle and see how you like the club.' So from first day, first training, I'm really happy with the lads."

Ali will challenge Jonathan Bond for a place between the sticks, with young Stuart Moore also developing under new goalkeeping coach Dave Beasant.

Al-Habsi is looking forward to the challenge, saying, "We have a great goalkeeper coach in Dave, and the great signing in Bondy. We have a group of goalkeepers, real competition.

"In football there is always competition, now I have to prove myself, work hard every day, that's what I did from my first day, hopefully it will all go well and I'm looking forward to playing my first game. I look forward to giving something back for the team, the players and the fans. The only thing now is to work hard and prove my performance level."
