Eriksen's deflected strike the only goalReading made another forward step in pre-season with a friendly game against a strong Tottenham squad at their training ground on Saturday morning.
The game was well contested, and both sides will have gained for the workout after a week of double training sessions.
The Royals gave game time to the majority of our first team squad, with both Ali Al-Habsi and Jonathan Bond getting 45 minutes, while Anton Ferdinand earned 75 minutes at centre back. And Stephen Quinna and Pavel Pogrebnyak were among those starting their first games in pre-season.
Tottenham also used a large number of players, including the likes of Cristian Eriksen, Mousa Dembele, Andros Townsend, Kieran Trippier, Nabil Bentaleb, Kyle Walker, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Michel Vorm among others.
The game was played with a good tempo, and the first half saw chances at a relative premium, with Pogrebnyak going close and then lively Spurs youngster Nathan Oduwa trying his luck at the other end.
With Spurs making a number of changes at half time and the Royals only one, the home side's fresh legs took advantage just before the hour when Eriksen hit a good strike that gave Bond no chance via a looping deflection.
With Reading introducing fresh legs including Aaron Tshibola, Sean Long and Dominic Hyam, the pace of the game raised again in the last half an hour, and we were unlucky not to score as Jordan Obita & Jake Taylor saw shots well saved, while Hyam had a half-chance with a back post header.
At the other end Bond was out well for a one-on-one, while Shaquille Coulthirst hit the outside of the post.
Overall a very good morning's work, and the Club would like to thank Tottenham for their hospitality in hosting us for this friendly game.
