McShane: Why I signed for Reading

Defender speaks after putting pen to paper

Paul McShane is delighted to have joined Reading and says Steve Clarke's ambition and desire to sign him were key factors in his move to Berkshire.

The Ireland international has penned a three-year deal, and in an exclusive interview with Player HD he told us why he was so keen to make the deal happen.

He said, "I feel good and I'm delighted to sign.

"It's been going on for a few weeks and I'm glad to get it over the line.

"Reading is such a good club, I know lads who have played for the club before, they have given me great reports, and when I first found out Reading were interested, Steve Clarke came over to Dublin and met up with me there when I was with the Irish team, that was a good gesture which meant a lot. It went to show how much the manager wanted me here, and I feel really welcome.

"For the manager to do that makes a massive difference. I want to be wanted, to play first team football and be a big part of the club. I want to be a big part of the team this year.

"When I spoke to the manager, he sounded very ambitious and that's the same as myself. I want to win, be part of a winning team and I want to be part of a promotion team again."
