Bristol City
Sky Bet Championship
Madejski stadium
Saturday 2nd January, 3pm

There were stages of last season where Bristol City looked on track to reach the heights of our record breaking 106 points total but instead they finished as champions of League One with 99 points, still heads and tails above the rest of the pack, ending eight points clear of second place MK Dons. There’s been as many as 87 meetings between the two sides over the years and last time out, in January 2012, the Royals overcame the 10 men of City by a single goal scored by Jason Roberts. We’ve also won four of the last five between the sides and, depending on how the reverse fixture plays out, that stat could be bettered by the time we meet again in the New Year.

Emirates FA Cup
Third Round
Saturday 9th January

The weekend commencing the 9th January will play host to the Emirates FA Cup Third Round, where clubs from the Premier League and Championship a placed into the hat. Last year the Royals were drawn to play in an away fixture against Huddersfield Town, Nick Blackman on the score sheet for Reading as we progressed into the next round of the cup.

Derby County
Sky Bet Championship
iPro Stadium
Tuesday 12th January, 7:45pm

Including the reverse fixture, this will be the sixth meeting between the sides in just over 15 months. And in those fixtures it’s all square at two a piece, with the winner in September able to hold the bragging rights coming into this evening game. New Rams boss Paul Clement has wasted no time in adding to his squad over the summer, bringing in the talents of Andreas Weimann and Darren Bent, former Royals Academy graduate Alex Pearce has also joined the ranks at Derby. Having endured heart-breaking end of seasons around the play-offs two years running, the Derby are sure to put up another fight in this one.

Milton Keynes Dons

Saturday 16th January, 3pm

Having made history in the opposing fixture, this will be only the second time that the Royals will pit their wits against an MK Dons side. By this point they should have a firm understanding of Championship football and there will be no messing around by Karl Robinson’s side. Gaining automatic promotion of the final day of last season will have given them a huge confidence boost, and if they hit the ground running in August then coming into the New Year they’ll be a force to be reckoned with.

Sheffield Wednesday
Sky Bet Championship
Madejski Stadium
Saturday 23rd January, 3pm

In the last five fixtures between these two sides there’s been 17 goals scored which could mean that fans will be in for another action-packed encounter. With Reading edging that stat having scored nine of those goals, Steve Clarke’s side will want to keep things that way come the end of this fixture. Wednesday will be under changed supervision this time round after the departure of Stuart Gray earlier this month. In our last meeting, which occurred almost a year and a week prior to this match, the Royals left Madejski Stadium 2-0 victors thanks to both Pavel Pogrebnyak and Nathaniel Chalobah finding the target.

Ipswich Town
Sky Bet Championship
Portman Road
Saturday 30th January, 3pm

The Royals completed the double over both East Anglian teams last season; Mick McCarthy’s men losing out 1-0 on both occasions, with Jake Taylor and Jamie Mackie the scorers. The Tractor Boys’ Daryl Murphy finished last term as the Championship top scorer, netting 27 times as he helped the side reach the land of the play-offs where they faced stiff competition against their East Anglian rivals, Norwich. Defeat over two legs means that Ipswich will be desperate to reach the same heights this year and challenge for Premier League football come the end of May.
