Winger hoping for more first-team opportunitiesTariqe Fosu cannot wait for the beginning of the new season and is targeting more opportunities in the first team, after signing a new two-year contract with the club.
The lively winger, who made his Royals bow on the final day of last season at Derby County, put pen to paper on his new deal on Friday afternoon.
And now that his future has been secured, the 19-year-old is counting down the days until August.
He said: “It’s very good to have signed my new contract. I’m delighted to still be at the club for another two years and, after last season, I’m looking to kick on and hopefully do the club well.
“I like to excite the fans, so I’ve just got to do what I do and hopefully they’ll enjoy it. At the moment, there are a lot of young players with the first team so it should be quite good for all of the young lads.
“I’d love to be involved in the first team again next year and when we go to Thailand, hopefully I’ll get another opportunity to impress.”
Fosu replaced the injured Jack Stacey after 30 minutes of our final-day clash at the iPro and it’s an afternoon that is still fresh in his memory.
“I’m still buzzing up to today,” said Fosu. “It was an unexplainable feeling. I almost scored in that game but I’m saving my goals for next season!
“The manager told me on the Friday that I would be involved. Originally I had an U21s game in the evening, so I was just chilling in bed but then I got a phone call to say that I would be traveling.
“I was delighted; I hopped out of bed and got ready in about 20 minutes and headed to the training ground.
“It was unfortunate that Jack got injured but that gave me my chance and I thought that I did really well. It was a great team performance, too.
“I’m pleased that the manager gave me an opportunity to play. He could have brought on someone else with a lot more experience but he chose to bring me on. I’m very happy with that.
“At half time he gave me a few words that gave me confidence to go out and do what I do. He said that he knew what I could do and that I should go out and do it on this stage.”
