La Liga club to conclude Reading's pre-season schedule

Reading will host La Liga club Espanyol in a pre-season friendly at Madejski Stadium on Saturday 1st August, kick-off 3pm.

The Barcelona-based side finished 10th in the Spanish top flight last term and will provide Steve Clarke’s side with their final test ahead of the new season, which kicks off away at Birmingham City a week later.

Espanyol have won Spain’s premier domestic trophy, the Copa Del Rey, four times in their 115-year history, the latest coming in 2006, while they have lifted the regional Copa Catalunya on six occasions.

They also finished as runners-up in the Europa League in 2007, losing out to Sevilla on penalties, and Sergio González Soriano’s side will arrive in Berkshire as they prepare for their 82nd season in La Liga – a division that they were founder members of in 1929.

Reading have already confirmed four other pre-season fixtures, which will begin in Thailand when the club take on the Thai Premier League All Stars on July 10th in Bangkok as part of a tour. Click here for more information.

Steve Clarke’s side will then face Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium on Tuesday 21st July and six days later we will travel to Crawley Town for a clash with Mark Yates’ men on Monday 27th July. Both games are scheduled to kick off at 7.45pm.

In between those two matches, the Royals will take on Premier League Swansea City at Wycombe Wanderers' Adams Park. The game will take place on Friday 24th July, also kicking off at 7.45pm. Click here for ticket information.

Ticket prices for the Espanyol fixture and all of the club’s other pre-season matches will be announced in due course.
