First-team squad to make historic tripReading Football Club will make an historic trip to Thailand this pre-season.
Steve Clarke and his first team squad are due to fly on the first weekend in July, arriving in Bangkok on Sunday 6th July before playing a fixture against a Thailand Premier League All-Star representative team at the National Stadium in Bangkok on Wednesday 8th July, kick off 7pm local time.
The game will be televised in Thailand by local broadcaster Thairath TV. The fixture is subject to normal ratification by the relevant Football Associations.
This tour, which will also include a short trip to the island of Ko Samui towards the end of the week, is our first ever trip to Thailand and it gives us the opportunity to showcase the club in the homeland of our new shareholders.
Lady Sasima Srivikorn said: “I am delighted that Thailand will be hosting Reading Football Club as part of the pre-season schedule this summer and I am very excited about what will be a wonderful week in my native country. I am sure the people of Thailand will warmly welcome the players and our coaching team with very open arms.”
Co-Chairman Sir John Madejski commented: “This is an exciting pre-season visit to Thailand for the club and a week I am certain the players and the coaching staff will thoroughly enjoy. It is a part of the world our shareholders are very familiar with of course and it will be a wonderful opportunity to present Reading Football Club to a south-east Asian audience fanatical about English football.”
Manager Steve Clarke added: "As well as being an integral part of our pre-season training, this trip will allow us to represent our owners in their homeland. We look forward to the opportunity of being good ambassadors for Reading FC and hopefully extending our popularity in Thailand."
The squad will fly back to England the following weekend to continue their build-up ahead of the 2015-16 Sky Bet Championship season with fixtures on home soil - the Royals’ pre-season has already begun to take shape in the form of two away friendlies against League Two opposition which were announced last week.
Steve Clarke’s side will face Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium on Tuesday 21st July and then six days later we will travel to Crawley Town for a clash with Mark Yates’ men on Monday 27th July. Both games are scheduled to kick off at 7.45pm.
In between those two matches, the Royals will take on Premier League Swansea City at Wycombe Wanderers' Adams Park. The game will take place on Friday 24th July, also kicking off at 7.45pm
Furthermore, the club are working towards hosting a friendly at Madejski Stadium on the weekend of 1st/2nd August and we will update our supporters in due course.
