Manager targets 12 pointsSteve Clarke says his side are under no illusions as to the task that lies ahead of them as they face Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday evening.
With 12 games remaining in the Sky Bet Championship season, the Royals sit nine points above the relegation zone – and the manager is targeting nothing but survival.
“We need more points,” said Clarke. “We need at least 12 more and the players are aware of their responsibilities to their supporters and to the club. The only focus in my mind is to get enough points to be safe in the Championship so we can start building for next season.”
Following a disappointing defeat to Nottingham Forest at Madejski Stadium this past weekend, thoughts immediately turned to putting things right at the Macron Stadium.
“In the lift up to my press conference on Saturday I was already thinking about my squad for Bolton, my mind was already switched onto that. You have to bounce back and get ready for the next game.
The crowd wanted to come and help us and they were great. I understand it’s a difficult time for them, but all I can ask is they stick with us. Without your supporters you’re nothing. You need your supporters behind you, I’m sure some of them will make the long journey to Bolton and we look forward to their support. Hopefully we can get a result from them.”
