Knight aims to provide experience

New signing sets out his goals

New signing Zat Knight is aiming to add valuable experience to the Royals squad after signing a contract until the end of the season.

With well over 400 career games under his belt the 34-year-old is aiming to bolster the ranks, as Steve Clarke’s men try to cope with a packed fixture calendar.

“I feel you do need the youth around but you also need the experience to help everybody,” Knight exclusively told Reading FC Player.

“I think football is missing that a little bit, having that old school type of experience around – no nonsense. If you can find the right blend I believe teams can be a lot better. I feel good in myself, I don’t feel the wrong side of 30 – touch wood I’ve never been injured and hopefully that can continue and I can keep running around the pitch!

“The manager has given me the opportunity for the next 11 or 12 games to come in and play my football and help the team out with my experience.”

The centre back, who towers high at six foot six inches, has already seen flashes of potential in his new teammates.

“I was excited to sign. The last few weeks I’ve been looking at the team and I think it’s a good team on paper, with some good individuals that can set the league alight. For next season they’ve got some great potential

“I’ve never worked with the manager before, but I’ve heard a lot about him obviously, being at West Brom and I know the players have spoken very highly of him.”
