Yakubu's Wembley dream

Striker looks for FA Cup redemption

Yakubu is aiming to fulfil a career dream and book a place at Wembley as the Royals take on Bradford City in the FA Cup quarter-final.
The prolific striker suffered heartbreak in 2009 as injury ruled him out of Everton’s cup final defeat to Chelsea, but the Nigerian is aiming for redemption this Saturday.

“Every player wants to play at Wembley, it would be special,” said the 32-year-old. “It’s not going to be easy as we still have a game to play. Bradford are a really, really good team – they fight for each other, they stick together and they make it difficult for any players who want to play them.

“But I missed the chance to do it with Everton, so to be at Wembley and to play, not just watch, would be great.”

The striker’s astute finish at the iPro Stadium on 14th February booked Reading’s place in this year’s Sixth Round – and he is insistent that there are more goals to come.

“I always believe everywhere I play I know I can score goals. I’ve been working really hard in training and I am fitter than before. I’m not frustrated at being on the bench, we stick together as a team and I’m just ready to go.”
