Clarke: Why Derby will be a platform

5 May 2015

Boss delighted with 3-0 victory

Royals boss Steve Clarke was very pleased with Saturday's win over Derby - and wants it to be a platform for next season.

We performed very well from start to finish, and Clarke told the press, "It's a good way to end the season.

"Anyone who'd seen us play, a lot of the performances had been very good. The players were stuck in a rut in which they had forgotten how to win a game, I told them after the game to not forget again over the summer!

"On the back of a frustrating, disappointing - however you want to describe it - run of matches in which performances had been good, this time the key moments went for us."

Clarke is now looking to build on the victory over the coming weeks and months, saying, "We have to find the consistency of performance.

"I've been reasonably happy [with performances] but consistency of results is what you're judged on. This is a good platform and a good indication.

"When I said last week I was 100% confident we wouldn't be in a relegation battle next year, people looked at me like I had horns growing out of my head. But I know what we have in the group.

"Hopefully we can build on the group in the summer, and next season can be much better for Reading Football Club."
