12 national female sides to feature on FIFA 16

Fans could have the opportunity to play as Reading and England Women's star Fran Kirby on the new edition of the popular FIFA videogame series.

EA Sports today announced that 12 national female sides will be playable on FIFA 16, of which the Three Lions will be one, with the new edition coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and many other games consoles in the Autumn.

Since breaking into the England team last summer, Kirby has been a regular in Mark Sampson’s national squad and is in the 23 for this summer’s World Cup campaign.

She and the rest of the Lionesses’ flew out to Canada on Monday and they face a friendly with the hosts tomorrow before their competitive action begins against France on June 9.

England will also take on Mexico and Colombia in group action and Kirby, Reading’s first ever England representative at a World Cup, will be hoping to add to her two international goals.

This summer’s Women’s World Cup will be the first to be broadcasted in full. The BBC will be airing every game on either BBC Two, BBC Three or the red button.

All games will be able to view on the BBC Sport website and live commentary will be available of all England matches on BBC Radio 5 Live.

There will also be a daily catch-up programme on the iPlayer, as well as live text commentary from every England match and other selected games.
