Alex explains importance of fighting spirit

Midfielder's match reaction following Terriers draw

Royals midfielder Alex Fernandez was pleased that the team were able to show grit and determination to rescue a point against Huddersfield Town.

Reading twice trailed to the Terriers, but the second leveller – six minutes from time through Ola John – got a point from the game.  However the Spaniard also acknowledged that the squad had targeted a better result.

“It was a good game for the atmosphere, but we needed the victory,” he admitted.  “It is very difficult when another team is winning at your home, but I think the team fought for the game which is good for us.

“But one point is not good for the table and we need to do some things better and in the next game we need the victory.”

Alex was introduced at half-time for his fourth sub appearance of the Championship campaign for Reading, and the first time he has played an entire half in the league.

“I am very happy when I play – I need to help my teammates and I feel good,” he continued.  “I need to work every day and I think if I put in strong work then I will get more opportunities.

“I’m very happy here – it is a big club for me and we are fighting to go to the Premier League.  We know it is very difficult but we fight for the people, for us and for our families.  It is a good team and a good family and I think it is possible.

“Here all players are very strong and very fast – all the teams are good.  In Spain it is different – there is very good football, but I like England and Reading a lot.”
